Anthony J. Aramburo

Anthony J. Aramburo, Ph.D. has been involved in the profession of deafness for over twenty five years.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Education at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana.  In addition to teaching, he works as a private practice interpreter.  Dr. Aramburo earned his Master’s of Art degree is in Linguistics of American Sign Language from Gallaudet University.  He received his Ph.D. in Special Education - Deafness from the University of New Orleans.
 
An active member in several organizations, Dr. Aramburo serves as the current Member at Large for the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.  He holds membership in the National Alliance of Black Interpreters, Inc. (NAOBI),  National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA), NAOBI – New Orleans Chapter, New Orleans Black Deaf Advocates Chapter, and the National Association of the Deaf (NAD).  In addition, he serves as a Commissioner on the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE). 
 
Dr. Aramburo is nationally certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the National Association of the Deaf.  He is actively involved in presenting workshops on interpreting topics along with infusing multi-cultural practices in our profession.  His interest also lies in the area of sign language research where he is actively collecting data focusing on sociolinguistic aspects within the African American Deaf Community.
